As of the latest estimates, Africa's population has surpassed 1.4 billion, which is about one-sixth of the world's total population, making it the second most populous continent. Africa extends from Cape Hafun in the east, Cape Agulhas in the south, Cape Verde in the west, to Ras Dashen in the north. It is typically divided into North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (which is further divided into Central Africa, East Africa, South Africa, and West Africa).
Africa has a diverse range of climate types, primarily including tropical desert climate, tropical savanna climate, and tropical rainforest climate. The northern region, especially near the Sahara Desert, has an extremely dry climate, while the Congo Basin near the equator is home to dense tropical rainforests. Africa is rich in natural resources, including diamonds, uranium, gold, iron, aluminum, copper, cobalt, and beryllium. Notably, South Africa is the world's leading producer of gold, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo ranks high in diamond production. Additionally, Africa has abundant oil and natural gas resources, as well as vast forests and grasslands. These resources provide a solid foundation for Africa's economic development.
