Africa

Africa is located in the western part of the Eastern Hemisphere, south of Europe, west of Asia, bordered to the east by the Indian Ocean and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, spanning the equator from north to south. Its area is approximately 30.2 million square kilometers (including nearby islands), accounting for 20.4% of the total land area of the world, making it the second-largest continent. As of the latest estimates, Africa's population has surpassed 1.4 billion, which is about one-sixth of the world's total population, making it the second most populous continent. Africa extends from Cape Hafun in the east, Cape Agulhas in the south, Cape Verde in the west, to Ras Dashen in the north. It is typically divided into North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (which is further divided into Central Africa, East Africa, South Africa, and West Africa).

Africa has a diverse range of climate types, primarily including tropical desert climate, tropical savanna climate, and tropical rainforest climate. The northern region, especially near the Sahara Desert, has an extremely dry climate, while the Congo Basin near the equator is home to dense tropical rainforests. Africa is rich in natural resources, including diamonds, uranium, gold, iron, aluminum, copper, cobalt, and beryllium. Notably, South Africa is the world's leading producer of gold, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo ranks high in diamond production. Additionally, Africa has abundant oil and natural gas resources, as well as vast forests and grasslands. These resources provide a solid foundation for Africa's economic development.

Africa boasts a rich variety of cultures and folk traditions. Drumming is an important element of African music and culture, and Africans are skilled at playing various types of drums. Dance accompanied by drumming is a lively and rhythmic performance form. Furthermore, Africa has unique leathercraft, mask culture, traditional weddings, and festivals. These cultural and folk traditions not only enrich Africa's cultural connotation but also contribute significantly to global cultural diversity.
