On a sunny morning, I visited Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium in Auckland, just a short 5 km drive from the city center, or about a 20-minute walk from Mission Bay Beach. The aquarium is located on the coast, so the scenery on the way there was already breathtaking. Once I arrived, I was excited to explore this fascinating place, which has been drawing visitors since it first opened in 1985. I couldn't help but feel amazed as I watched these beautiful creatures move through the water with such grace. After walking through the Underwater Tunnel, I headed over to the Antarctic World section. This area of the aquarium is home to penguins, and it was one of the most fun parts of the visit. I watched the penguins swimming in their icy habitat, diving gracefully in and out of the water. The penguins seemed to enjoy their environment, playfully diving and swimming in the chill water. I even saw a few waddling along the ice, looking incredibly cute as they slid around. It was a great way to learn more about these fascinating creatures and their natural habitat. The cold environment was carefully recreated to resemble the Antarctic, and it felt like I was really stepping into their world.

There are over 30 exhibits in the aquarium, showcasing more than 80 different species of marine life. Some of the highlights include tropical fish, seahorses, and the huge stingrays that glide by in the underwater tunnel. The marine life on display was not only beautiful but also educational. The aquarium has a very interactive atmosphere, with touch pools where visitors can gently handle starfish and other sea creatures. I saw kids laughing as they got up close to sea urchins and small fish, learning about them in a fun and safe way. The staff were friendly and informative, always happy to answer questions and share interesting facts about the animals.

I also noticed that there were several fun photo opportunities throughout the aquarium. There were life-sized models of sea creatures, and in some areas, visitors could pose as if they were inside a giant fish tank. It was a great way to capture the moment and make some lasting memories.

Once I had finished exploring the aquarium, I decided to take a walk to the nearby Mission Bay Beach. The area was bustling with people enjoying the sunny weather, and there were many cafes and restaurants where I could sit and relax. The beach itself was beautiful, with fine golden sand and clear water. It was a great place to unwind after my visit to the aquarium. I grabbed some lunch at a seaside cafe and enjoyed the stunning views of the bay and the city skyline in the distance.

Mission Bay was the perfect complement to my visit to Kelly Tarlton’s. After spending time surrounded by marine life, it was nice to have some quiet time on the beach, reflecting on what I had seen. The combination of the aquarium’s underwater adventures and the peaceful beach made for a wonderful day out.
